A terrible thing happened this August. My niece. Whom I have spent 3+ days with a week for pretty much the ENTIRETY of her life… started pre-k. And I was out of a job. *sob*
It’s bittersweet. Without putting all the private info about the kids on the internet, the boys are in school already and my niece is now old enough to be in a program too. Which makes me so sad, but it’s run by kind older ladies and some college girls and they all seem really decent folk.
This means I have all these days to fill with things. So… I have started (or restarted) doing secretarial work for my dad. He runs a small business and I have learned how to do sales tax and balance credit cards etc… It’s super fun. It’s like all the good parts of my job at the bank, and zero answering the phone. I would do this for several businesses if I could. I truly enjoy it.
I am still doing the same things, like helping with my special needs siblings, substitute teaching, selling baked goods, running an etsy store, affiliate marketing on social media, the occasional babysitting gig…
And my latest side hustle, working at a coffee shop/bake house. With my church bestie. And I really enjoy it.
I am learning to do barista things and fancy drinks, I have learned how to made different food items, I have done a LOT of dishes and refilled a lot of coffee cups. I work a couple days a week as needed. Kind of like substitute teaching, only at the cafe.
Do I enjoy it as much as I enjoy being with my niece all day? No. Nothing tops that. BUT… it could be worse.
