Who CAN You Rely On?

One of the most vile things I have ever heard is of a girl who can’t rely on her dad. Recently a woman told me that she was attacked in her freshman year of college. It was the middle of the night. She was in her dorm room alone, until she wasn’t. And when she went to her dad for help his response was, “Well… did you learn your lesson?”

My question is… WHAT LESSON IS THAT? That college is overrated and dangerous? That men aren’t to be trusted? That “NO” doesn’t actually mean, “NO” and wearing shorts is an invitation to be abused? This happened in the UNITED STATES! Not a third world, war torn country.

I believe the reason that women these days are so obsessed with books that contain morally gray villains is because we all desire to be protected. We all want to know that the men in our lives would essentially k*ll someone to keep us safe. There is a whole generation of women who didn’t feel safe and weren’t protected. So it is sought after in literature and fantasy.

Every woman deserves to have at LEAST one man in her life who says, “You deserve to be kept safe and I will do whatever it takes to make that happen.” It should be the societal standard. Back in the day when there were dangerous men that the law couldn’t take care of the community at large would help someone disappear and nobody spoke about it again. Wild west justice. He abuses his wife? Not anymore. He harms kids? Think again.

I am filled with rage when I think about it. And when I remind myself that I don’t get to see vengeance done because that belongs to the Lord I am also filled with frustration.

Do better society. Do. Better.
