I am not very knowledgable about coffee. And I’m ok with that. But sometimes you want to take a nice coffee treat to a friend and in those instances you have to know coffee words and coffee things.
The other day I was planning to take my friend a coffee to the farmers market. In preparation for that event I asked my bff (who used to be a barista) what I should order for her. She essentially said that our friend likes a cortado, ask for a breve.
So, I drove up to starbucks (because that’s the only local coffee that has a drive thru) and ordered a breve. The barista was very nice and said, “So… that’s steamed milk. Do you want it in coffee?” I was super embarrassed and explained that I didn’t know what I was doing, but my friend has ordered cortados in the past. She kindly got me the drink I asked for with steamed milk.
Do I know what any of this means? Not really. Will I mess up this order again in future? Probably.
I will stick with my overly sweet iced lattes or flavored teas and live to sip another day.
