Black Friday Flopped

I don’t know about you, but the black Friday deals this year were kind of a joke. I am happy that people are able to shop online and aren’t duking it out over tvs in Wal*mart anymore. But where are the deals? 30% off is nice, sure. But there used to be items 70% off. 80% off. It was an event.

I’ve been getting Black Friday ads in my inbox since the beginning of November.

Now we have: Black Friday, Small Business Saturday (I’m a big fan of this one actually), Cyber Monday, and Travel Tuesday.

People have been exposing box stores because the discounted price isn’t even discounted. The price tag will say $89.99 and then they put a “SALE: $89.99” Tag on top of the original price display. How is this legal?

Now Cyber Monday deals used to be more of an Amazon thing (I think) but now I’m getting Black Friday Cyber Monday combination ads for all the box stores.

Now, Travel Tuesday is a new one for me. Apparently this is the time to buy plane tickets and travel reservations because prices will be marked way down. And I guess it’s something that has been happening for years but for some reason it’s not as advertised.

Anyway… I didn’t find any spectacular deals during Black Friday. I did buy some discounted chicken feed, and I hunted for things, but it didn’t feel like much of a bargain this year.

  1. I think shoppers would be better off waiting for specific items to go on sale throughout the year rather than waiting for Black Friday. Thanks for your insights!

    1. I agree. It’s funny how our interests and desires change. I used to impulse buy for “bargains” but now I get excited when chicken feed or groceries are on sale.
