I went on a road trip and it was awesome.
Unfortunately I also have asthma, so it hindered my ability to hike like I wanted. BUT… I went places and I saw things and it was a good time.
A couple weeks ago I was telling my parents about the trip I was about to take. Originally I wanted to go to Montana, but because of unpredictable weather I didn’t want to go that far north in my little Toyota without snow tires or 4 wheel drive.
I decided on Cheyenne, Wyoming. Cowboy country.
Much to my surprise Mom expressed interest in my plans and it worked out that she and my youngest sister could come along.
This was extra great because 1. I love hanging out with my mom and 2. We took her car, which is a jeep, which was much better for driving through mountains and state parks and possible snow. ALSO I had planned to stay in extremely cheap motels and possibly even my car but now we could stay in a little nicer places. (I took FULL advantage.)
I was going to leave Sunday afternoon, but mom wanted to make a stop in Denver, Colorado. We ended up leaving Saturday morning and arrived in Denver around dinner time.
Now, if you have never been to Denver there is a lot to see. Great mountain views. A thrift store chain called Arc which is seriously the best. And the weather was pretty mild.
Denver also has a lot of pot and crime and it is EXTREMELY crowded. We stayed till Monday morning and by Monday I was done with Denver.
My dad booked a hotel for us because he is the best and because there is a system where he earns points so… We stayed at something called the Plaza something something of Denver. When we arrived there were a ton of people there for the Marine Ball. Pretty cool to see so many people dolled up. Unfortunately the hotel was pretty gnarly.
The parking lot was a literal nightmare, all of the side doors are emergency use only, and the pool was out of commission. You had to walk the length of the hotel to get from the front door to the elevators and the water pressure was a sad trickle.
However, it was a significant step up from sleeping in my car and showering at a truck stop so… I didn’t leave any nasty yelp reviews or anything.
We attended church Sunday at a nice place where my mom has some friends. Her friends were on a family retreat so we left pretty quick and went out to do some thrifting. (For those who don’t know I run an etsy shop and ebay store so I use every opportunity I can to go sourcing.)
to be continued…
