Preparing for Winter

I am not sorry to see summer go. It is time. I have sweat enough. But I am not fooling myself. There will be some hard days ahead and here’s how I will prepare for them.

Sun lamp! Help fight SAD (seasonal affective disorder) or Winter Blues. Light therapy can help against shorter days and lessened exposure to the sun. My mom got me one for Christmas last year and I used it in the mornings.

Liver will help fight low vitamin D. If possible I like to get my vitamins from a food source rather than a supplement pill. BUT, I have not gotten to the point of crunchiness where I enjoy cooked liver or can swallow frozen raw liver. So… the next best thing are these ancestral supplements beef liver pills.

A good night’s sleep is invaluable. One way to guarantee a good night’s sleep is adequate doses of magnesium. Even if you eat super clean you’re likely low on magnesium like most other Americans. Mary Ruth Organic’s Nighttime Minerals will help you get the best, most restful sleep of your life. Combined with magnesium salve directly applied to the skin I hope to get on a schedule of going to bed with the sun and rising with the sun.

I’m going to keep the immune system strong with elderberry syrup. I recommend locally made when you can get it, or make it yourself! My elderberry bush is the only thing that produced this year (without being destroyed by bugs).

I also plan to use: fermented garlic in honey, homemade fire cider, and fermented onions in honey.

How are you preparing for winter?

  1. Could you link the nighttime minerals and also the liver supplements you use?
