I decided on my birthday that I was going to get my life on track this year. I was going to set some specific yet realistic goals with my shrink, do better tracking my finances and figure out where I’m holding myself back.
One way I’ve done this is listened to more audiobooks. Specifically, books about self improvement and healthy practices. I have listened to The Power of Positive Thinking. An excellent read by a preacher who writes of his experiences with people from all over the world. I have listened to two books either by or about Jose Silva, the father of modern manifestation practices. He believed that God made our brains to function differently than we’ve been taught and he started using meditation to help his children achieve better grades in school. Today I started one called, The Body Keeps the Score. This is by a doctor of psychiatry who studied PTSD in veterans and learned that mental illness is so much more than a chemical imbalance in the brain.
Through these books (an many more) I plan to figure out where I’m holding myself back and why. Am I really incapable of ____ goal or is it that I feel safe in my current state and getting outside of my comfort zone is scary or threatening?
I have also started working on my house again. (With the help of my very generous family.) I am decluttering, moving furniture, even planning to paint some. I want to have an office again. I want to get back into teaching ESL, so I’m going to turn my storage room back into a working space. I am going to make things look nice so that my house isn’t just a place I eat and sleep, but a place of comfort, peace and joy.
I am going to try some new things business wise and this blog has been one way of easing into that.
I plan to try EMDR and some other therapies with my shrink and see if we can’t help 2023 Regan move towards some dreams she’s put on hold for the past decade or so. That includes a health journey, a self-esteem journey, and literal physical adventures.
What are some goals you’ve set for yourself this year? How do you plan to achieve them?
