Today I had a friend ask me why Americans are so obsessed with trucks. And this is my unscientific breakdown of why Americans are obsessed with trucks.
- Trucks are so practical. Yes, they cost a lot in gas, but they can haul a lot. Everyone who owns a truck is popular because people need to move stuff!
- It feels empowering to sit so high off the ground when driving. You feel safer, especially when you have kids in the car with you.
- Except for the most remote places in the country, trucks have replaced horses (or donkeys/mules) for transport. Look at who drive trucks, cowboys, farmers, ranchers… the manliest among us. They use trucks for work. Trucks are associated with ruggedness and hard work.
- They make little men feel big. When I worked in the bank I met the shortest man I had ever seen. (No, he was not a little person.) He stood at maybe 5″1? He drove THE BIGGEST truck I have ever seen. It took him two steps to get up into his truck. And I say, “good for him”.
- They are super fun to drive. My absolute favorite thing that I have ever driven is my Dad’s old Ford f-150.
Do I have stats and numbers? No. But I am a country adjacent lady and I have lots of opinions. What is YOUR favorite truck?
