Well… the illusive second snake made another appearance in my chicken coop, and this time… I prevailed!
So as previously stated, I had a big ol’black snake eating eggs in my coop one day. I was able to catch them and dispose of them after the loss of a weeks work of eggs. (That’s a lot!)
Their spouse made an appearance, but I didn’t catch them. Until now!
I was out gathering eggs at about 9:30 the other night. (Later than usual.) When I turned to leave the cop I noticed the big ugly thing in the empty winter water bowl. I got them out, but they almost made another escape. Thankfully with the trusty old garden hoe I was able to dispose of this one the same way I did their partner in crime.
There was much shouting and exclamations of fear. At one point I was yelling (for extra oomph) and I repeated, “Not my chickens! Not my eggs!”
This one was perhaps a touch smaller than the first one, but they had several eggs in their belly because when they stretched out I could see all the lumps indicating it had recently snacked on some farm fresh eggs.
A farm-hers work is never done. ❤
