Starlight Shows

Kansas City has an outdoor venue called Starlight Theater. They have concerts, comedians and broadway shows come through each summer. I try to go every year (but some years the shows are duds.)

I have seen…

  • Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. This was my first Starlight experience. It was glorious.
  • Cinderella – They changed the storyline to make one of the stepsisters not so bad. It was a cute change. I didn’t mind it.
  • Beauty and the Beast – Ngl, they made the beast kind of unbearable in this production. He was extremely whiney.
  • Peter Pan – Super cute… Well done… Almost but not quite as good as the Mary Martin VHS I watched growing up as a kid.
  • Oklahoma (modernized)- Worse thing I have ever witnessed in person. 10/10 would NOT recommend supporting this crime against humanity.
  • The King and I – It was SO good I went and saw it twice. Lou Diamond Philips was the King. He definitely lived up to the hype. I love him.
  • The Little Mermaid – My friends surprised me by attending this show right before I moved to Alabama for a year. My friends don’t even like theater. It was the best gift ever. ❤
  • Josh Groban & Sarah McLachlan – They’re very talented singers, but I don’t like her music. And Josh Groban was pretty crude… I was unimpressed.

I think this is all I’ve seen… I wanted to see Little Mermaid again, but didn’t make it out. They also did West Side Story, but I was a little afraid they’d ruin that like they did Oklahoma. (Not that Oklahoma is starlight’s fault… but they could have warned me.)
