We Get What We Hate

I recently listened to a lecturer who said we get what we hate, and what we hold grudges about come back to us.

So… I was thinking. What do I hate? Spiders. And I see spiders EVERYwhere.

What do I hold a grudge about? My former friends abandoning me after college. And I know for a fact there are 2-3 friends who could claim I have done the same. (Though not to the same degree…)

The idea behind the lecture was to say that we have to forgive like God forgives or it will come back to hurt us. The example given was of a woman whose husband cheated on her. This woman held on to so much bitterness that when she ended up having an affair with a married man, even though she claimed to hate infidelity.

Needless to say I am going to work on truly letting things go and moving on from grudges. Even though it’s hard. We are not promised vengeance, that belongs to the Lord.
