It has been an entire week since I got my kitties. I have fed and watered them daily, but I haven’t engaged with them much. They have started playing more and when I walk by their pen they no longer hide. Today when I walked by they stood at the door meowing. When I opened the door to feed them (for the first time) they didn’t run and hide! They didn’t approach me, but they came up to eat and drink the raw milk I provided instead of hiding. Milo, the leader, still hissed at me, but overall I think they are adjusting.
The trick is giving things time. They have had time to get used to the chickens walking around the yard. They have had time for Jethro my big ol’dog to get used to them and their scent. To realize they are friend and not foe.
I will give it another week or two probably. But I am happy with the progress.
One kitten had a gooey eye, and without even medicating her eye has cleared up! I think the real game changer is the raw milk. If they can’t have mother’s milk anymore (and they’re old enough they can get by on hard food no problem) then raw milk is giving them that extra boost of probiotics and immunity.
So far we have Milo, Cutie (an orange cat), and Rascal. My nephew named one JJ but I am going to change it. Suggestions welcome. Temporary JJ is a calico.
