This week our Bible study was about the apostle Peter and it was phenomenal.
The speaker explained how Jesus changed Peter’s name, and then you see in the Bible when Peter is acting with less maturity he is called by his former name, Simon, and when he is being more steady and reliable Jesus calls him Peter.
He talked about the importance of names and how people who knew Peter as Simon probably remembered a hot head and people who knew him as Peter probably knew him for as a follower of Christ.
We also talked about how important it was that the apostles were “normal” men without great advantages in the world. One reason was because the people they were reaching were also “normal” and un-extraordinary people. Because the gospel isn’t only for those who are wealthy or educated, it’s for everyone.
