Going Outside in a Small Town

Lately I have done fewer and fewer things that require me to be out and about in our small town. There are some people I don’t want to see, and there are other people I don’t mind seeing, but don’t necessarily have the energy to engage with.

Today I ventured out. I went to the new/old coffeeshop that I used to frequent. (Back when it was owned by my good friends and their food/coffee wasn’t… gross and overpriced.) I wanted to get some things done AND a live musician was going to be playing!

Well, I have been here for an hour and I have seen three people that I know and can talk with. That’s not bad. I hoped I would see at least one of them while I was here. But it just goes to show, you can’t even visit a gas station in this town without seeing SOMEONE you know. And as midwest goodbyes are already the longest things in existence small talk is no small feat.

Venture out at your own risk my small town compatriots!
