Have you ever had an article of clothing that you leaned on like a baby blanket? It was comforting, it made you feel/look good, it gave you confidence? Over the years I have had several. It might just be because I’m a creature of habit, so I get reliant on things… But here are some of the most memorable ones.
When I was in fifth grade I had a Dodgers jacket. It was royal blue and white, and it was my FAVORITE thing. I don’t know where it came from, but I wore it until it was literally tattered threads and my mom tossed it. That jacket brought me joy for a couple years.
In junior high there was a black dress shirt that I wore as often as I could get away with. It made me feel good, and I think it was flattering. (At least it was in my memory.)
In my college days there were a pair of elf looking flats from Modcloth. I wore them until the paint was chipping off the faux leather exterior and the soles had holes in them.
In my adult life there are a couple denim jackets and shackets that I have relied on. This winter my go to was a denim jacket from H&M, just oversized enough to fit over a sweatshirt, but fitted enough I still felt like a girl and not a garbage heap. Lately I have been embracing the 90s mom look, with sneakers (though mine are superior because they’re barefoot zero drop leather sneakers) and oversized sweatshirts and jackets. Think Sandra Bullock but not…
What are your go to comfort items?
