Hands down the BEST part of any story are the beloved side characters. Especially in these Scottish Romance novels I have found in my library app. The insane little hedge witch who speaks in riddles and accurately predicts the future 9/10 times, but annoys everyone to death with her lazy eye and inappropriate anecdotes.
Or the unruly child who saves the day in the last moments of the novel because they didn’t listen to the adults and followed their friend into danger.
Sometimes even a pet with a lot of personality. The war horse who is dangerous to all but the female lead, or the hound dog who wanders aimlessly the entire story and just happens to trip the villain when they go in to stab the hero.
I love it so much. Especially when they aren’t killed off unrighteously.
