Language of the Times

There is a lot that I hate about modern slang. I will never forgive the person who came up with the terms “skibbidy” or “rizzler”. It pains me to even type them. However, I do sometimes find myself using slang and feeling “cool”. But then I immediately give myself the ick.

I never got into saying “slaps”. That slaps! This song slaps! Not me. I don’t do it. But I have used the term “cringe” countless times, and I also find myself saying (or thinking) “that gives me the ick”.

Unfortunately, using these terms also gives me “the ick”. It’s like I’m trying to be young and cool, when really it’s just a useful term. I have long talked about second hand embarrassment, things that are cringey, things that pain me they’re so hauntingly stupid. BUT… even though “the ick” might be the most useful and reasonable term termed in this generation, I feel moronic using it.

What are some of your favorite or least favorite slang words from younger generations?

I live in a land where dude shall reign supreme forever and as long as I can call things cool I will probably make it through the coming decades.
