I just found out Day6 has some new music out, so today I’m going to share some more of my favorite kpop artists and songs.

There are so many talented people out there, but to be honest I don’t pay very close attention to anyone newer than Seventeen. Why? Because their ages are ambiguous and I don’t want to be swooning over a teenager. It just feels wrong. I can appreciate the sound of their voice without watching them dance too. (They probably dance beautifully, but I’m no cougar.)

My first favorite is EXO. I have been their fan since they were the original 12 members. (All the Chinese members have left the group, though they are successful artists w/ solo careers now. I think I see the most from Lay Zhang, but I don’t pay super close attention.)

EXO’s most recent album, Exist, is incredible. They didn’t let me down. The thing with Kpop is every few years groups are disrupted because of mandatory military service. I think with EXO Sehun is the only member who has yet to serve, or maybe he is currently… The Korean news app I used to have no longer exists so I don’t follow as closely as I once did.

Members: Suho (the leader), Xiumin (the oldest), Baekhyun (the funny one, lead singer), Chanyeol (writes a ton of music, lead rapper), Chen (married with two kids, lead singer), D.O (Kyungsoo, lead singer) is an incredible actor, Kai (lead dancer), Sehun (youngest, rapper and main dancer).

They are all successful actors as well as musicians, singers and dancers. I think the youngest members are 30 this year, so they’re in the third generation of kpop?

Love Fool is my FAVORITE song from this album. (They didn’t have any misses with this one.)

They sound JUST as good live as they do on the album, sometimes they’re arguably better. The vocal runs these dudes can do… It’s unreal. There’s a reason Kpop is taking over. These guys are the real deal.

I could seriously talk about these guys forever. I am fascinated. I also have a lot of sympathy for them because they are essentially treated like a national boyfriend. When Baekhyun dated early on he was SO mistreated by fans. When Chen announced that he was married with a baby on the way people signed petitions asking him to leave the group. It’s criminal how little privacy and control they have over their own lives. Thankfully, since these guys are a little older I think they have more rights but that could be wishful thinking on my part.
