Color Theory: Seasons

Have you ever been told you’re a certain season in terms of what you should wear? There are articles online that say, “Hold up a white paper to your face and see if you are warm or cool toned, make sure you’re standing in natural light. What color are the veins in your arm? Do you look better in silver or gold?”

These tests confuse me because I can’t tell what color my veins are. Sometimes they look green sometimes they look blue/purple. I prefer gold, but I don’t know if that looks better.

I have reddish hair, so I have always been told I am an autumn. Then I used an app that told me I was a spring or summer. I started to wonder if I was colorblind, like Winston in New Girl, because I did not understand how I could be all the different things.

I have a warmer skin tone, I’m very pale and lightly freckled, my hair is reddish and my eyes are green. So I pretend I’m an autumn, because it’s my favorite season anyway. BUT… autumns aren’t supposed to wear black or navy blue! Those are two of my favorite things!

So, what are the seasonal rules?

Four Seasons Colour Analysis

At the end of the day you should wear what you like, regardless of what the “rules” are. But if you WANT to know more I will leave a brief summary of each season below.

Winter: cool and dark colors (jewel tones)

Spring: warm and light colors

Autumn: warm and dark (earthy)

Summer: cool and light

If you want to REALLY get detailed each season is broken into three subcategories. I am borderline overwhelmed with the four, but should I learn more you’ll be first to know.
