Google says, “What is The Mountain Is You about? The Mountain Is You (2020) can help you recognize the negative patterns in your life and what they are really telling you. Changing those patterns will be like climbing a mountain and the reward will be unlocking your own potential.”
And that’s pretty much it.
I thought the book was AMAZING. It is SO good that I am going to buy a hard copy so I can reference it whenever I need to.
I listened to the audiobook on my free library app. (There was a waiting list, but it was well worth it.)
This book breaks down negative patterns of behavior and why they exist. One thing that stuck out for me was the poverty mindset. Another was that we as people are more comfortable with bad situations that are familiar, mores than good situations which are not familiar. For example, a battered woman will often return to her abuser because it’s what’s familiar and feels safe even though it’s unsafe. Or someone who gets a raise might not automatically become better with money because they’re used to having none, so they overspend.
I have a terrible time saving money. I wonder if it’s a combination of poverty mindset and not being used having excess money so I overspend. Or even try to over-save. I have frequently put money into savings only to withdraw it a week later because I need that money to pay bills. Or if I have excess I will make an extra payment on a student loan or bill, only to be short the following week because I overspent the week before. If I have excess in my account it practically burns a hole in my pocket.
Reading this book showed me I want to change my mindset. I want to live in a place of thankfulness and gratitude. Appreciation for all things. Add a positive spin to any situation. Start spiraling upwards, instead of downwards.
I’ll check back in a few months to let you know how it’s going.
