My niece is a very social baby. She likes people and she usually does ok being held by strangers. And I have figured out why.
Where my older brother and his family attend church there are anywhere from 100-250 people at any given service. Several of those people love my niece and will carry her around after services, taking her to talk with the little old ladies, or to play with the other kids.
It’s very sweet. It’s a very safe environment. And it is socializing the baby.
Had I been passed around between several different people growing up would I have been the shy, introverted child I was? Would I, as an adult, have an easier time of it when it comes to meeting new people? Would I be better at recognizing names and faces?
Maybe… maybe not. But I know when I have kids I am going to want to do something similar. We all want more for our kids than we had for ourselves. Well, I had a pretty great life. I would want the same for my child. Just with more opportunities to know people so that when they are grown dealing with the rest of the human race isn’t such a trial.
