Birthday Reflections

Last week it was my birthday. I was feeling reflective. These are some things that I did to make it a wonderful day.

  1. I took my birthday off of any and all social media. Nobody was notified. Not on Marco Polo, not on Facebook… it was glorious. There were no insincere birthday wishes from random acquaintances. My birthday was my little secret. My closest friends texted me. My close relatives texted me. And that’s all.
  2. I spent the day primarily alone. I drove to Oklahoma, stopped when I wanted to, went shopping, founds some great finds in T J Maxx.
  3. When I was with people it was loved ones or family. My Dad checked my car oil and prayed for me before I hit the road. He also left money on my dashboard. He does that sometimes. I’m going to start calling him Dashboard Robinhood. My dad is the best.
  4. I spent an hour with my sweet neighbor, Joan. She’s an elderly lady who lives on her own in a precious little farm house up the road. I met her through the bank (when I worked there 100 years ago) and she became my favorite person. We visited. I shared birthday cake and flowers with her. Being around her raises my vibration. She is the most loving, tender hearted, God fearing lady I ever met.
  5. When I got to Oklahoma I stayed with my mom and brother and sister in law at an Air BNB. We went to Oklahoma for the 100 miles of yard sales between OK and KS. I didn’t really feel like yard saling, but I was off work for a few days so I took advantage of the time off for a trip. They got me a peach pie for my birthday and gave me a couple gifts. It was simple, but nobody sang. I loved it.
  6. My family did all celebrate together a couple days before. My SIL made me a pumpkin cheesecake. (It is HEAVENly.)

I think the biggest thing that made my birthday a good day was there were zero expectations because I was in charge. I did anything I felt like doing and had a great time. I didn’t have anyone else’s feelings to consider. I was extremely selfish. I think this will be my new tradition.

How do you celebrate your birthday?
