Tweens Today

I am thankful that the drama during my first teaching assignment this year was mild. I had students who in years past have caused MAJOR issues in the classroom, and today they were on their best behavior.

There was some drama in my second to last class of the day. After lunch a young lady stood at the back of the room in tears. I offered to let her go to the nurse or counselor, but she refused. A young man explained some drama that went down at the basketball game. It sounded like a misunderstanding, and I don’t think they had malicious intent. But I encouraged him to stop talking about it because regardless of the intentions his classmate was upset.

These kids are silly, but nice. I hope they will always be kind to one another through the remainder of their school days.

I also appreciate that they all look their age and so far I haven’t seen any kids who are 13 going on 30.

*sigh* It’s the little things that make substitute teaching bearable.

Good luck with the new school year! The tween and teenage years are definitely fulfilling and frustrating as a teacher
