If you wanted to write a book or a script that would frustrate me beyond all reason it would need to include these things…
1. A nonsensical time leap. Probably towards the end. Skipping ahead a year or more. Leaving you with an unsatisfying ending and a million questions. (Ex: Clean With Passion for Now – K drama)
2. An unrealistic sibling relationship. So many contemporary romances I’ve read include a brother and sister who are disturbingly close. I’m convinced the authors either have had traumatic relationships with their siblings or they don’t have siblings. (Ex: Any time that a brother (adult) holds his sister (adult) in his lap to comfort her. It unfortunately is included in stories more than you would think.)
3. A hero who is a male feminist. (Ex: Rhysand from ACOTAR)
4. A conflict where the heroine gives in too quickly/easily. (Most stories in my opinion.)
5. A time leap bc the lead has a chance to further their education so they study abroad for a year or more. (Ex. An Incurable Case of Love – J Drama, My Beautiful Gong-Shim – K drama, She Would Never Know – K Drama)
6. A perfectly wonderful couple (side characters) end up divorced for incredibly stupid reasons. (She Would Never Know – K Drama)
I could probably come up with more, but these are the ones that have bugged me recently.
