Medicated Truths

So my brother had a procedure done recently and was taking some heavy pain meds. He came home and was a tad loopy. I was babysitting, as I do, and he came up to give me a big hug.

We’re not a super touchy family, but I don’t mind family hugs.

This was our conversation:

Bro: I love you so much. I’m sorry I wasn’t nice to you when we were kids.

Me: It’s ok, I wasn’t nice to you either.

Bro: But I’m older, I knew better. I’m so sorry.

Me: It’s ok, I forgave you a long time ago.

Bro: You’re so good to us. I love you. Even when I’m quiet and I don’t say it out loud, I appreciate you.

Me: Thanks, I love you too.

Sis-In-Law: Well… You gonna hug your sister all day or go to bed and rest?

Bro: I need her to know!

Moral of the story, if I want to know my brother’s true feelings I need to make sure he’s taking pain meds, hahaha

But seriously, it was very sweet. It makes me a little sad because he’s such a great brother and he still carries a lot of guilt from when we were kids and we were mean to one another. But it’s been 15 years. I think we can safely move on now.
