Redheaded Jill

This movie is about a princess whose airship is attacked by pirates. She falls to the ground only to be rescued by the magic crystal around her neck.

**SPOILERS AHEAD**

The princess is rescued by a boy in a mining town. After some time passes the princess is hunted by corrupt government officials and the air pirates. There is lots of laugh out loud moments, especially involving the pirates.

The princess is captured by the government and her boyfriend teams up with the pirates to rescue her.

They are hunting for the lost land of Laputa, a castle in the sky full of untold riches. Kind of like Atlantis, only in the sky.

The princess is rescued by the pirates and they accidentally find Laputa. The corrupt government follows them and a battle ensues.

Come to find out the princess is a descendant of the people of Laputa, as is the colonel who has been harassing them the entire movie.

The movie ends with the princess casting a spell of destruction she remembers learning from her grandma. The castle falls away and the pirates barely escape with their lives (and lots of stolen treasure).

The princess and her boyfriend also escape and they are last seen flying away from the castle in the sky.

I feel like a lot more could have been explained in this movie. However, it was pretty enjoyable. The pirates were amazing comic relief. They were a family, similar to the Grogans(?) from Pete’s Dragon, but they’re more lovable. And there are 4-5 sons.

The mining town was full of hard working people who helped the princess without expecting anything in return. While the villain was nasty and there was a lot of explosions/violence it wasn’t so graphic that I wouldn’t let older kids watch it.
