I am a millennial. (Thus all the therapy talk.) I saw a video the other day by Jordan the Stallion on IG (The guy who tells the secret recipes of all the restaurants).
He is Gen Z. He is 26. He claims that people have thought his mom was his sister and someone in their 50s thought they were the same age. He doesn’t look particularly old to me, but I definitely thought we were the same age.
In his video he said that studies claim Millennials look younger than their age and Gen Z / Gen Alpha look older.
This can be due to many things. Stress is my main guess. My other guess is that as a whole, millennials were the first ones to really have social media. We had TERRIBLE makeup trends. We experienced embarrassment. It was a right of passage. Gen Z and Gen Alpha have social media 2.0. They are learning how to use retinol at age 9. They are dressing like college students in 6th grade. I see kids in the junior high and can’t tell if they’re 12 or 20 because they’re dressing provocatively and using makeup like a professional. All those chemicals can’t be good for you. All those endocrine disruptors. (Though millennials had bath and bodyworks so… it’s not like we didn’t have our share of chemicals.)
There are also more hormones and fillers in our food these days.
I didn’t care enough about this to research it, but I did have a good laugh when watching the initial video.
When we’re young we want to look older, when we’re older we want to look young…
If this is a concern for you I recommend a good Korean skincare routine. : )
