Making Pretty Things: Fire Starters

One thing I have in abundance is flower petals. I save all my bouquets from the farmers market and dry the flowers. Mostly for savings seeds, but I’ve always wanted to do something special with the flower petals.

This year I decided to make fire starters for my friends with a fireplace or stove.

What I did was take beeswax and melt it down, add in wood chips and flower petals. It was beautiful!

I made them in muffin tins, but it was a messy business. I recommend for anyone else trying this to use silicone muffin tins and then it will pop out clean instead of leaving behind a beeswax mess on your nice, metal tins.

They worked super well as a fire starter. They burned for several minutes, and the beeswax doesn’t clog your chimney with gross chemicals and sludge.
