A Day in the Life

Since my job(s) are a little different than your average person I thought I’d share what the days look like depending on my various jobs.

Thursday was a little chaotic so I thought I’d share that one. My job for Thursday was taking care of my nephews.

8:00 – Got up and left the house.

8:30 – Helped load up my sister’s puppy. She’s a 70 lb great pyrenees pup who was ready to get fixed.

9:15 – Lured her into the clinic for the procedure. Poor thing was scared. She’s a farm dog, not used to a leash. But she did great once we got her inside.

10:00 – Stopped to pick up a grocery order at walmart. (grocery pick up has ruined me and also saved me so much money. I now hate going into stores, but it helps me stick to my list!)

10:45 – Got home and went to pick up my nephews. We played with the toys Grandma got them for Christmas (to keep at my house). They played with this cool sink that really runs water and they can “wash” their toy dishes because they change color depending on water temperature. (Like this one from Amazon.)

11:30 – Wardrobe change because the boys drenched themselves.

11:45 – Snack time, cut up fruit and veggies and I started lunch. (Shell pasta, a popular menu item around here.)

12:30 – Ate lunch. Made myself a hamburger for lunch and chili for dinner.

1:00-4:00 – The boys chose Phineas and Ferb. (Love that cartoon.) They snacked on popcorn and made such a huge mess I decided no more popcorn for the rest of the week. They played with the race cars (also a gift from Grandma). Wrestled like they were in the WWE. Built train tracks and terrorized my sister’s cat.

4:00 – Took the boys home because I had to go retrieve the puppy from the vet.

4:15 – stopped at the post office because I had several ebay and etsy orders to mail out.

4:30 – Chik-Fil-A detour because we love the Lord’s Chicken around here.

5:00-6:00 – Picked up our poor sleepy puppy. Got lectured about keeping burs out of her fur. (I appreciate people who professionally work with dogs, but there is a real disconnect between farm pets and house pets. And vets who travel to farms to doctor animals and the ones who stay in an office mostly working on lap dogs and house cats.) Got Maggie home (the puppy) and went back to my brother’s house to help with bedtime. Rocked my baby niece to sleep and put her to bed. She’s been sick. If my sister in law is working late (she’s a nurse practitioner at a children’s hospital and maternity leave just ended. Her house change weekly as well.) When she’s working late I try to help out at bedtime. This is the part of the day where I get to snuggle my niece and my brother gets the boys washed and fed and into bed. Left because my brother is a pro and hardly needed a thing.

6:00 – went to my parent’s house to do some paperwork for my dad. I’m new to quickbooks, but I help enter bills/invoices, settle credit card statements and organize invoice statements. Things that are like busy work to his secretary who deals with customers and phone calls all day long.

9:30 – Got home. Started a fire. Went to bed.

So the “jobs” I did today included babysitting my nephews and office work for my dad’s business.

Next time I’ll talk about my schedule as a substitute teacher, or a market vendor, or an ebay shop owner, or an etsy shop owner, or an online ESL teacher : )

I love that there’s flexibility to my day. It works out well when my family needs help with things, like taking the dog to the vet. My mom is having surgery soon and it will help to be able to have a flexible schedule then. She won’t be driving for a little while and my sister needs a ride to school and work.

Once my brother starts back to work things will be slightly less flexible, but I’ll take advantage of it while I can.
