Sympathetic Nervous System

Info taken from my.clevelandclinic.org

The sympathetic nervous system is a network of nerves that help your body activate it’s “fight-or-flight” response. It happens when you are stressed, in danger, or physically active.

Danger or stress activate the sympathetic nervous system.

  • your pupils enlarge to let more light in to improve your vision
  • increase in heart rate to improve the delivery of oxygen to other parts of the body
  • relaxes airway muscles to improve lung function
  • slows digestion to focus energy on other parts of the body
  • activates energy stored in the liver
  • Improved immune system and body’s repair process

It helps in situations where you need to act quickly.
