The other night my dad was at my house to help start the process of installing my wood stove. On the back of my garage door I keep a “to do” list of home projects and improvements.
While heading out to his truck he saw my list and asked about some of the items on it.
In between installing the fireproof flooring and laying out tile my dad took care of several items on the list. He fixed the light fixture in my bedroom. He took a mental note of the loose siding on the back of my house and the dishwasher that isn’t draining 100% of the time. And he offered to replace the outlets in my bathroom.
A few nights ago he worked well into the cold night digging up the power line between the chicken coops to find the “bad” place in the wire. He fixed it and installed a new outlet so I can put lights out back for evening chores.
My dad is always doing these types of things. I want to live a dreamy farm life so he builds me a couple chicken coops and lets me help with his cattle. (He let me claim one of the cows as my own.) I get a flat tire and he replaces it. I need and oil change and he changes it.
These are just the physical things. I haven’t even touched on the fact that he always puts God first, regularly studies his Bible, listens to sermons in his free time, treats everyone well (even when they don’t deserve it and have mistreated him) and helps people in need. He is probably the greatest dad in the world. And I am definitely the most fortunate daughter.
