This year my family (16 people), have decided to do a new thing for Christmas. We drew names for gifts. This way instead of spending a lot of money on various gifts we each get one nice gift for someone. (Of course, the kids get their own gifts from everyone because Christmas is a bigger deal for kids.)
I got my sister in law and my brother has been giving me ideas. She is hard to shop for because she’s so low maintenance and practical. Actually, two of my sisters in law are like this. (And ironically they have the same name haha.) Anyway, this girl can make anything, thrift anything, or repurpose anything. So I got a few things that my brother told me about, but I’m determined to find her a surprise. Not sure what it will be yet… I’m always looking…
This will be a fun new tradition I think. I always struggle to find something for everyone. A few years I’ve tried making all my gifts, but who has the time these days?
The easiest people to shop for are my nephews. I got them Halloween costumes after Halloween. I think I got them each 3 costumes for under $20. Thank you 70% off at Target! And my mom keeps buying them gifts, half of which she’s putting under my tree so they have gifts to open here.
My Grandparents never decorated for Christmas, but they always came to our house on Christmas day for lunch. After Grandpa passed away Grandma let me buy a tree and we had so much fun decorating it. I would set it up one night after she went to bed and she’d wake up December 1 to a tree full of hilarious ornaments. I like funny, weird, eclectic ornaments. I can appreciate a very beautiful, classy, curated tree… but I love the random ornaments.
