Substitute Teaching: Ag Science

I just learned that our local school offers Agriculture Science and that is the greatest news I’ve heard in ages.

Not only are kids able to take a science class that is actually INTERESTING, but it’s IMPORTANT AND NECESSARY!

Today I’m filling in for the Ag teacher and the lesson are incredible. Chicken husbandry. FFA contest practice. Exploration of ag and growing sweet potatoes in the classroom. There’s a corner full of hydroponics (?) and grow lights, there’s posters everywhere explaining different cuts of meats and the sprays put on crops, and drawings of horses that are comedically bad and also the greatest pieces of art I’ve ever seen.

This might be the greatest teaching assignment in the history of teaching assignments.

The kids are working pretty independently, if they have questions it’s something I can either understand or am interested in reading more about to help their understanding, and though this has nothing to do with the course content I have three classes today that will either be empty or have max 2 people in them.

Bonus, I’m next to the music classroom and they’re practicing xmas music BUT it’s good classic xmas music like “I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm” from the Rat Pack xmas album.

Productivity thy name is Wednesday.
