Monat Hair Journey Continued…

**Beware, we talk the nitty gritty of hair and that means… shower drain conversations. If this grosses you out come back next time : ) **

After my hair consult I agreed to try the Monat products. I’ll go ahead and say that I was desperate, so I didn’t ask my usual questions about ingredients and toxicity. I did eventually check the Think Dirty App and the only warning ingredient was “fragrance” which could be anything. (Meaning harmless or extremely toxic so… yay for that.) So that’s one red flag ingredient and 36 green light ingredients for those of you who know the Think Dirty scoring system.

I ended up buying a kit that includes shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioner, and a scalp treatment oil. The products are SUPER concentrated. Abbey was telling me even most salon products are 50% or more water and the Monat products are as little as 20% water. So a little goes a long way. (That’s great for me because my hair is NOT porous at all. It’s also very fine, but there’s a ton of it so it takes a lot of product to really get into my hair.)

I have been using the products for about 2 weeks (which means 4 hair washes) and this is what I’ve noticed.

  • The shampoo really dries out my hair and leaves it feeling stripped, but the conditioner adds the moisture back in like it’s supposed to.
  • I wash my hair then do the scalp treatment and then rinse before conditioning (instead of using the scalp treatment on dry hair).
  • When I started to get concerned about the amount of shedding I was losing enough hair with each wash that the drain was completely covered and I would be standing in a couple inches of water after each shower. (Sorry, TMI maybe? I DID warn you…) This happened even if I brushed my hair out before washing it.
  • Today (after the 4th time using Monat) I did NOT lose as much hair. There was some, which is normal, but not enough to block the flow of water down the drain.
  • My hair feels softer and is looking less damaged. I like to double cleanse so I still use Moerie and Olaplex for my first round of shampooing.

I’ll keep track of my hair progress and will show pictures. I’ll also include a link to products in case you’re interested. In order to get discounts on products myself I became a Monat ambassador, but I haven’t studied the literature yet. I highly recommend checking out @abbeytameron on IG or you’re welcome to ask me questions here and I can point you in the right direction.

Here’s hoping for the mermaid hair of my dreams! : )

This was my BEFORE photo for Abbey, my hair consultant.

I don’t hate my hair. But this is about as long as I can get it without trouble starting.
