The info shared here is taken primarily from personal experience and narrativeenneagram.org
The enneagram is made up of nine numbers that form three triads. These triads are body, heart, head. Types 8,9,1 make up the body triad. They seek control and are known as “anger”. Types 2, 3, 4 are known as “image” and seek approval. Types 5, 6, 7 seek security and are known as the “fear” triad.
An enneagram wing is the number surrounding your own. Example: I am a 4, so my wings are 3 and 5. I identify more with the five side, or say I am a strong wing five.
When we are feeling strain or pressure we share traits with other numbers more strongly. The same can be said for when we’re feeling our best. These are stress points or security points.
But why do we have our numbers? What happened to us as children to shape who we are as adults? What did we learn and what do we long to hear?
- It’s not ok to make mistakes – You are good enough

- It’s not ok to have your own feelings and identity – You are loved and valued simply for being you
- It’s not ok to be too much or not enough – You are seen and loved for who you are
- It’s not ok to be comfortable in the world – Your needs are not a problem
- It’s not ok to trust yourself – You are safe and secure
- It’s not ok to depend on others for anything – You will be taken care of
- It’s not ok to be vulnerable or to trust anyone – You will not be betrayed
