How to listen to audiobooks for free…

The secret is… A LIBRARY CARD! Or in my case, two library cards! I have a card for our town library and a state of Kansas library card. The library apps I use with my cards are Simply E and cloud Library.

SimplyE: You can use this one without a library card, but it limits the books you can read. However, if you’re interested in classics then you have your pick! Anything under public domain is up for grabs. You can also use this app without internet. Yes, you need reception or internet to download or return books, but once you have them downloaded you can listen anywhere anytime. You can borrow both audiobooks and ebooks, and you can place books on reserve or hold for future use. I think the limit is 5 audiobooks per month, but I’m not sure about ebooks.

cloudLIbrary: This is another great app. It is similar in that using a library card gives you access to so many books. There is a 5 audiobook per month limit, but I’m not sure about ebooks. I just had a thought… you MIGHT be able to double the amount of books if you use both library cards in separate accounts. Interesting…

The last place I get free audiobooks is Youtube. I’m honestly shocked because I figured anything I’d want to read has copyright and a pay wall. Well, youtube has opened up a whole new world. You can type in just about any of your interests book wise and options will appear. Because they’re free they’re not always the best quality, but I have found several series that I enjoy on youtube. I took a chance and searched for The Body Keeps the Score, which I’d reserved on the Cloud app. I’m like… the 20th person in line so it would take months to get the book. Well, youtube has it for free! The reader is an AI reader who messes up a lot of simple English words, BUT of all the AI voices I’ve heard read it’s by far the best quality one.

So good luck! Next time I’ll talk about apps you pay for and if they’re worth it.
