Redhead Facts, Myths, Theories…

These are things I’ve read or heard, and this is my response to them. Ok, the obvious theories first…

Redheads:

  • have a temper
  • burn easily
  • don’t have souls
  • are witches
  • freckle > tan
  • more sensitive to thermal pain
  • less sensitive to other pain
  • anesthetic isn’t as effective on them
  • more likely to bruise

I guess so? I can get pretty riled. I don’t burn super easily, but I don’t tan well either. I do have lots of freckles. I am 99% sure I have a soul ; ), I am not a witch (never got my Hogwarts letter), I hate severe temperatures, but I prefer being cool/cold to being hot.

I have been told I have a high pain threshold, but I don’t know if that’s particularly true. I haven’t been hurt very often in my life, but I have experienced Kidney stones at least twice, and that was a beast of a pain.

I don’t have any knowledge of how I reacted after surgery other than getting my wisdom teeth out. I remember the whole experience (not the extraction, but the waking up afterwards) and I was not down for the count more than 24 hours. Now that I think about it… I have never received or at least never taken any pain meds given to me by a doctor. Even when I was in the hospital after getting a kidney stone removed they didn’t give me any serious pain meds in the IV. Apparently you have to ask for them if you are in pain. I just assumed I was getting some so I didn’t ask for more because I was afraid of becoming dependent, haha

I do bruise pretty badly. Especially on my legs where the boys land when they jump into my lap.

I only recently found out that redhead icons Ann Margaret and Lucille Ball were not natural redheads. I’m not sure about Maureen O’Hara but she is the redhead we all strive to be. Such a beautiful and talented woman.

My favorite story characters include Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables. She was the iconic redhead with a temper. I also love Irene from The Princess and the Goblins, but she’s not someone with a temper. And the cartoon gave her a reddish hue to her hair, but I don’t remember if the actual character is described as a redhead.

Anyway, what’s your favorite hair color? For me it’s redhair for women and dark brown or black hair for me. (So pretty much The Little Mermaid and Prince Eric.)
