1000 words. I heard Cha Eun Woo once say he knew the 1000 most commonly used characters in Chinese. I thought even though there are tens of thousands of characters that must still be extremely useful for a base understanding of the language.
Recently I heard a IG Korean language account say to start learning a language memorize the rules of grammar and the 1000 most commonly used words.
So I am going to challenge myself. Even though I’m using the pimsleur language program to learn Korean I am going to make myself flash cards of the 1000 most commonly used words. Once I am proficient I will try to do the same with Chinese.
Wouldn’t it be cool to know 1000 words in several different languages? I would love to be a polyglot. I wish I pursued this interest when I was in school. Unfortunately our only options for language in high school were Spanish and French. I took French. I hated it. The French language is not music to my ears, unfortunately. BUT, I remember how to introduce myself and ask if I may use the bathroom. I also know how to call someone, “My petite cabbage.” hahahaha
