Overrated Movies

Have you ever waited so long for an experience only for it to be a complete let down? I have many times. We build things up in our mind and make it larger than life so there’s no way the real thing can measure up. I have done that a lot with movies.

Here are some of my most notable cinematic disappointments.

At the top of the list is Grease. Does it have a lot of great music? Yes! Did I have the soundtrack for years before I was allowed to see the movie? Yes. Do I love “oldies” music? YES! Was John Travolta super handsome? Yes. But there is also a whole cast of people who look 40 portraying 18 year olds. The sexual innuendos are plentiful and unnecessary. And it’s just entirely overrated. At the end Sandy changes into a hussy to fit in and that’s seen as admirable. I pretended to like this movie for years, I TRIED to like this movie for years… Alas, I must be true to myself. Grease gets 4/10 stars.

Next we have The Princess and the Frog. Perhaps the worst music of any Disney princess movie AND the creepiest villain. I have seen this movie once and I have no desire to ever see it again. The prince has no redeeming qualities, and the princess is only slightly likable because she’s voiced by that talented singer from the Dream Girls movie.

The Notebook. James Garner is a treasure. Otherwise it was rubbish. And super depressing. I know it’s based on a book, but no thank you. I have no desire to see it ever again or read the book. (My preference is happy endings only. That’s why I never finish the second half of Gone With The Wind muahahaha.)

These next movies I have only seen five minutes of and it’s time I wish I could get back because I feel it was so wasted.

ET: I hate all things outer space with a tiny exception for a couple of the older star wars movies. Also, the plot is creepy and they have so many sexual innuendos, which is not cool for a kids movie… or with child actors. No wonder hollywood kids grow up to be psychotic.

Titanic: Leo DiCaprio is overrated and Kate Winslet is gorgeous, but her character is an idiot. From what I’ve heard the idiocy doesn’t change from the start of the film to the end.

Dear John: Nicholas Sparks just doesn’t float my boat. Too sad. Also Channing Tatum is one of those actors who I don’t have a major interest in. He’s just not my style.

Avatar: So boring. So. Boring. It goes along with my dislike of aliens and sci fi. I actually didn’t watch this one, I listened to it from my dorm room as my roommate watched it. I ended up putting headphones in because I was so disinterested.

So there’s my judgmental rant. Anyone else have some “classics” that they just can’t get behind?
