Side Hustles

As I’ve said MANY times before, I live for the side hustle. ANYTHING but the traditional 9-5 office job. With some life changes happening lately I need to increase my number of income streams.

I thought for a little while that I was “too old” to do things like babysitting, but honestly… who cares if you’re 30 and babysitting? That’s till good money! So I thought I’d share my various jobs, including a few new ones, as well as potential future jobs.

  • Nanny
  • Run multiple etsy shops
  • Ebay seller
  • Sell baked goods and handmade products to local shops
  • Secretary work for small businesses (quickbooks, invoices, cc statement consolidation)
  • Dog sitting
  • Baby sitting
  • Substitute teaching (in Kansas you don’t have to have a teaching degree, you just need an Emergency Sub license.)
  • ESL Teacher (online)

My main job is being a nanny 3x a week to my nephews and soon to be my niece. I have three small etsy shops that don’t bring in a ton of money, but it’s fun to do. More lucrative than etsy, I sell dishes and vintage clothes on ebay. There are 2-3 local shops who buy and sell the same products I make for etsy as well as baked goods and eggs. I do secretarial work for my dad’s small business. (I’m still new to this job, but I’m learning quickbooks which I think will be extremely useful info in the future.) When asked, I dog sit and baby sit for friends in town. I have my substitute teaching license and now that the school year has begun I’ll be teaching 1-2 x a week. And I’m still employed as an ESL teacher, although I haven’t taught any classes in over a year.

Things I’m still getting into or figuring out.

  • Freelance writing
  • Blogging
  • Affiliate Marketing
  • Author/Publisher
  • Designer/Digital Creator

Newer to my list of jobs, I hope to learn a lot more about online content creation and income streams. My friend is helping me build a freelance writing portfolio. I have this blog and landing page for my affiliate links, but that same friend and I are starting a Kansas Tourism blog (smalltowntumbleweeds coming soon!) I am learning the ins and outs of affiliate marketing and kindle KDP (as I’ve written in past blog posts). And I do odd jobs for my brother’s podcast production company, like designing business cards and pamphlets.

I want to encourage anyone out there doing their best to make ends meet without an office job. It’s a lot of balancing and scheduling but it can be done! If you have any suggestions or stories of your favorite side hustles please leave them in the comments.
