I grew up thinking that my pinky toe curling and tucking itself into my fourth toe was a genetic trait. My Dad’s feet do the same thing, and as far as I know so do my siblings’ feet.
About a year ago I was introduced to barefoot shoes and their benefits. When our feet aren’t crammed into too small, too narrow shoes our toes spread out. We are less likely to have feet issues like bunions and hammer toes. When babies start to walk we cram their feet into tiny shoes and when they’re most malleable we train their feet to be a wonky, unnatural shape.
I love pointy toed shoes, I think they’re so cute. But after wearing mostly barefoot shoes for a year I find myself in pain after a couple hours in pointy toed flats. I try to go barefoot as often as I can, or I wear flat sandals or flip flops. Nothing with an arch support, nothing squishy, nothing that I’ve been told my whole life is good for my feet. It’s not.
Between my chiropractor and barefoot shoes I have been cured of plantar fasciitis, my toes are starting to spread out more naturally, and I don’t have the pain that I used to get in my pinky toes.
Before I decided to invest in $100+ dollar shoes I got some cheaper ones off Amazon. Whitten is the brand. These are super comfortable, machine washable, and they have a removable insert in case you do or don’t want the extra arch support.
During last year’s black Friday sale I bought barefoot winter boots and a pair of sneakers from feelgrounds. 10/10 would recommend. There are lots of companies who make good barefoot shoes. A lot of them are out of the USA, so shipping takes time. But the chances of finding something you like made of quality materials is high.
These are the Feel Grounds shoes that I love:

Feel Grounds is currently having a summer sale on their tennis shoes. I think 20% off! (I am not an affiliate, I just really love these shoes.) Around Thanksgiving I bet they’ll have a good sale on their boots as well.
If you are experiencing discomfort in the feet and nothing seems to help I would recommend a good ABC Chiropractor and some barefoot shoes.
