My Favorite Hayley Mills Movies

Hayley Mills is an absolute treasure. I LOVE her.

My favorite role of hers was as Bridie White in The Gypsy Girl (also known as Skywest and Crooked). She is so talented. In this movie Mills portrays a special needs girl who lives with her alcoholic mother. One day a gypsy named Robin her in the village and instantly becomes fascinated by her. As time goes on the village turns against Bridie and her new friend becomes her savior. The music is haunting and I am HERE for it! (Did I mention her friend is played by Ian McShane? *swoon*) Unfortunately I have yet to find this on DVD. The ones on Amazon aren’t playable in most dvd players found in North America for some reason.

Next up is Truth About Spring. Hayley Mills is a teenage girl who lives with her dad on a boat. Her dad is an ornery fellow who gets into some scrapes with pirates and treasure hunters. One day they allow a traveler to sail with them and gradually he and Mills (Spring) fall in love. It’s a sweet story with lots of laughs. If I’m not mistaken her dad in the film was her real life dad, John Mills.

Finally we have The Parent Trap (the original) with Hayley Mills, her on screen mother Maureen O’Hara, and her darling grandpa, Charlie Ruggles. (Cutest name ever for a cute old man.) There are several versions of the parent trap, including one where Sharon and Susan are grown up with kids of their own. I believe it is parent trap 3 where one of them marries a man who has triplets. Check spotify for the original music performed by Annette Funicello, another Disney queen.

Honorable mention: The Trouble with Angels, Moonspinners, Pollyanna
