New Kitchen Floor

Part 2: A work in progress.

I have to admit, a lot of my “helping” on this renovation journey was really me standing there watching, or needing my brother to hammer a piece down because I wasn’t quite strong enough. I am INCREDIBLY sore from all the up and down, but it was worth it. The floor looks SO nice and clean.

When we got to the floor in the kitchen it was disgusting. The original layer of flooring was all discolored and dirty. We scraped it best we could, and I’ll scrub it with cleaner before we finish laying the vinyl on Saturday.

Hopefully we can get the washer and dryer moved and the linoleum torn up on Friday night so we can finish on Saturday. I’m hoping two of my brothers will be available to help this time so things will move much more quickly.

I have also convinced myself that if I can do this to my kitchen eventually I can do this to the bedrooms and bathrooms. But there’s a few tools I’m definitely going to invest in before I attempt any more home projects.

This contour gauge for one… This would have saved us a lot of time.

An electric rotary drill(?) for cutting.

A sturdy mallet. (I broke both my grandpa’s old one AND my brother’s new one. Oops! I just used it like I was instructed!)

Good pliers to get those pesky nails out of the floor and wall at awkward angles that a hammer can’t reach.

Some legit gloves, because with all the hammering I earned some gnarly blisters.

I look forward to my next home improvement project! Though I’m sure my family hopes I’ll take a break. Until then I’ll continue to go to the university of youtube to learn things like, how to start the weed eater and how to install an alarm system.

TO BE CONTINUED…
