My first major home renovation, the kitchen floor.
A few years ago our dishwasher leaked. It got under the floor and left big, discolored rings. I was worried that it would be moldy underneath and was nervous to even pull the linoleum up. My Grandparents put down this beige-tan linoleum on top of their cute white and blue flooring that the house had to begin with. I do not understand this choice. ANYWAY…

So unfortunate… but not as bad as I anticipated!
In February we bought some vinyl floor from Home Depot at the suggestion of my brother. He just built a house and they used this same flooring. It sat in my garage floor until FINALLY I decided to get the project started. (I always rely on my dad and brothers for these bigger projects, but my Dad suffered a heart attack two months ago so I haven’t wanted to ask him to do this type of thing during his recovery.)
I decided on my days off this week I’d get started. So, with my little sister’s help, we pulled up the linoleum and did our best to scrape up the glue. I started laying floor Monday night. (I watched several youtube videos and felt very prepared.)
Almost immediately I came to an awkward corner and needed my brother to cut out a wonky shaped board, by hand. The floor we’re replacing goes from my dining area, to the kitchen, to the laundry/entryway. I got about 1/2 the dining room finished, but the first cutout piece we had to use didn’t quite sit right. Monday night I decided to go to bed and continue again Tuesday morning. My older brother came over Tuesday and said if we were going to lay floor we’d best do it right. So, we took up all the floor I’d laid and he cut out a fresh, more concise piece, and we carried on. It took about 6 hours, but we got 2/3 of the floor done.
The desk sits at an angle, so my brother had to do all sorts of cutting and measuring. It turned out so nice!
