Judy Garland, best known for playing Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz and being abused by practically everyone involved in her career, has made two phenomenal movies that I don’t think receive enough recognition.
One being The Pirate with Gene Kelly. It’s a musical. It’s HILARIOUS! Lots of misunderstandings, hidden identities, and dance numbers.
Next is Meet Me in St. Louis. A classic boy/girl next door romance with all the charm of turn of the century America. One big theme is the family’s excitement for the World Fair. There are some great musical numbers including The Trolley Song and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.
I discovered these movies back when I first got my license and the only place I was allowed to drive (outside of work, church, and school) was the library. Hours of joy. Hours and hours of joy.
You’re welcome.
