Jack Lemmon is an underrated treasure. A short king, he could sing (although he often didn’t for his movies), he could rock a suit and was both a comedian and a straight man.
My favorite movie of ALL time with THE GREATEST soundtrack is How to Murder Your Wife. I seriously plan to use this soundtrack in my wedding someday. Jack Lemmon is a cartoonist who acts out the scenario of his story before drawing it. One drunken night he proposes to a random Italian woman and wakes up the next morning married to the stunning Virna Lisi.
The soundtrack is excellent. Neal Hefti also composed for The Odd Couple and the Batman Theme. My Personal Favorite is Virna.
Next we have a musical, My Sister Eileen. Now, Lemmon isn’t the MAIN character, but he’s her love interest and WHAT a love interest. Lemmon is charming, kind, and takes notice of the sweet wall flower who moves to New York with her sister Eileen to become a writer. This movie also stars Bob Fosse, Tommy Rall, Betty Garret and Janet Leigh so you KNOW it is chock full of impressive dance numbers. My personal favorite being the dance off between Fosse and Rall in a New York alley.
Some honorable mentions: Grumpy Old Men, The Odd Couple, My Fellow Americans.
If you don’t want to purchase these movies (although you’ll want to after you watch them) Amazon Prime or your local library has a wide selection, especially of the older ones.
