Coronado Heights

Guess what gang… There is a castle in KANSAS! That’s right. No need to travel overseas. Europe who? KANSAS is where it’s at…

Coronado Heights is located in the Smoky Hills, NW of Lindsborg, KS. (Check out http://www.visitlindsborg.com for more history and a map!) When I was there I saw tons of native plants, a big ol’lizard, and countless butterflies (in addition to the castle).

The castle like structure was built in 1936 as a project of the Works Progress Administration.

This was the most fun day trip I’ve taken in a long time. The view is breathtaking, there’s a hiking trail and stairs, there are places to enjoy a fire, countless picnic tables, the echo in the bottom of the castle would make for a haunting sing-along… Don’t listen to the nay sayers who lament a drive through Kansas. Make a slight detour to visit Coronado Heights and you WON’T be sorry.

It was a 70 degree day in July in Kansas.
It was a miracle.
The clouds + the castle
The view across from the castle
You can see for miles in any direction

Don’t let my iPhone photography deter you 😂 This place is breathtaking.
